Ex-UE manager passes away

Dr. Jesus Tanchanco, Sr., the amiable former University of the East men’s basketball team manager, died yesterday at the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center after he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was 83.

His remains lie in state at the Funeraria Paz in Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.

Tanchanco was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men for Commercial Science in 1965. For his excellent track record, he was named administrator when the National Food Authority was created during the Marcos administration.

Tanchanco moved to UE in the mid-2000s and held various positions, including being the school’s Executive Director for Marketing.

In 2009, Tanchanco was named the UE team manager, the same year the Red Warriors led by Paul Lee, Elmer Espiritu, Rudy Lingganay and Pari Llagas, reached the UAAP finals.

Tanchanco stepped down last year after another failed campaign by the Warriors.
